Since the launch of eReferrals, dozens of enhancements and refinements have been made to the eReferral tool and forms based on direct feedback from Nova Scotia users. We continue to work with our eReferral and electronic medical records (EMR) vendors to support ongoing improvements that will make the tool and forms as helpful as possible. You can view the most recent enhancements and previous updates here and we invite your continued feedback:
Review the latest enhancements improving eReferral user experience — August 22, 2024.
When scrolling through the referral inbox, the entire folder pane moves and the referral table headers are hidden.
To make the table easier to read, column headers and filters will stay at the top of the page when scrolling, making it easier to read and apply filters.
Navigating the large number of referrals in the sent/received folders is difficult. Additional filters and the ability to save filters would improve usability.
Directory listing and service filters have been enhanced to make it easier for users to navigate and action referrals:
—Users can now apply and save several filters to only see referrals for the listings and services they are managing.
—Separate filters can be added to the Needs Review, New and Sent folders.
—Filters can be added and saved for referring clinician, listing, service, and reviewer.
—Some folders also have specialized filters such as priority, protocol and appointment date.

Understanding the eReferrals View
NOTE: As Ocean makes ongoing improvements to filters, users may periodically need to reset their filter settings.
In the Ocean Healthmap, the “Are you looking for a health service” box is displayed even after a service has been selected, requiring an extra click.
This issue has been resolved. The “are you looking for a health service” box will no longer display if you have already selected a Health Services Category.
Referrals managed outside of Ocean (e.g., when the receiving provider is not in scope for Ocean eReferrals) remain in the pending booking folder, creating uncertainty about whether they are being managed.
When surgical central intake teams manually redirect eReferrals to providers who are not using the eReferrals tool these are now tagged as “Externally Managed”. Referrers may notice a new “Externally Managed” folder. This only appears if you have sent an eReferral that is being managed outside the tool and you will not receive updates through the tool related to these referrals.
